Printed by Hazell, Watson, and Viney, Ld,. London and Aylesbury
Since the issue of my ‘Manual of Musical History’ in 1892, death has been very active in the ranks of musical composers, and the world is the poorer by the loss of Brahms, Gounod, Rubinstein, and Ambroise Thomas – to mention a few of the most eminent only.
As the work is now out of print I have availed myself of the opportunity to subject it to further revision, and to bring it down to the present date; it has also been thought well to add to its utility by including some notice of the labours of the more prominent contemporary musicians.
